Dr. Levin attended the University of Illinois undergraduate and medical school, spending the last year of school (1964) in Boston, Massachusetts as a Predoctoral Fellow in Immunology in the Harvard medical program. Upon finishing medical school he remained in the Harvard medical program and served an internship and Postdoctoral Fellowship in Immunology. In 1966 he was drafted into the United States Navy and served as a Flight Surgeon for the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam from January 1967 to March 1968.

As Flight Surgeon for a USMC combat medevac helicopter squadron in Vietnam, Dr. Levin was exposed to very heavy combat. He was noted for his conspicuous bravery against overwhelming enemy forces and his audacious disregard for personal safety under enemy fire when ministering aid to wounded Marines. As a result of his conduct under fire, Dr. Levin was highly decorated for valor. He was awarded, among other medals, the Silver Star Medal, The Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V", four Air Medals and the Combat Action Ribbon.

Upon returning from Vietnam, Dr. Levin finished a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Immunology and joined the faculty of University of California San Francisco, rising to the level of Adjunct Associate Professor. He left full time academia for private medical practice but continues to maintain a faculty position with the University. Dr. Levin is Board Certified in Allergy/Immunology and Pathology. He is one of the founding members of the American College of Emergency Medicine. He has published over sixty full-length peer reviewed medical journal articles as well as numerous invited reviews, abstracts and reports. Most of these articles relate to basic immunology, AIDS and cancer. Dr. Levin is well known for his resolute advocacy of the FDA fast track for AIDS and cancer drugs.

He also served as an expert witness in many high profile "toxic tort" cases including the Agent Orange litigation and the Woburn Leukemia case, later the subject of the book and movie "A Civil Action". While testifying in the United States Courts system, Dr. Levin was struck by the scientific misinformation and disinformation being conveyed in "toxic tort" trials. He was appalled at the outright corruption of the Agent Orange and the Woburn Leukemia cases. He decided he could better straighten out the situation from the inside. In 1993, at the age of 55, Dr. Levin commenced law school at Golden Gate University in San Francisco, earning his Juris Doctorates degree in 1995. He is currently licensed to practice law in the states of California, Texas and Nevada, as well as the United States Court of Appeal for the Armed Forces and various United States District Courts. He is also admitted for specific cases in several other states.

As a lawyer, Dr. Levin has successfully represented clients who have developed allergies, autoimmune diseases, heart disease, kidney disease and cancers caused by environmental toxins and pharmaceutical drugs. He was recently instrumental in successfully negotiating a multi-million dollar settlement for people who developed heart and lung disease from the diet drug in FenPhen. Just as in his previous lives (soldier and physician) Dr. Levin is known as a tenacious advocate for his clients. In the courtroom it is difficult to ignore Dr. Levin. He is both feared and loved by his adversaries. His hero and role model is General George S. Patton, the combat soldiers' general of WWII fame. Like Patton, if Levin believes in you, he will doggedly support your case and refuse to put up with "bull shit" from anyone.
